He changed his name to his mother's second husband who was from the Canary islands. Truman Capote is as Anglo Saxon as you can get.Sharon Wilfonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17466621290140789056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-948826710613032587.post-82260382720187966952018-12-29T21:21:11.137-08:002018-12-29T21:21:11.137-08:00I get the author mixed up with Al Capone & I n...I get the author mixed up with Al Capone & I never would have thought Breakfast at Tiffany's would be about a woman as you describe - probably because of Audrey Hepburn. I haven't seen the movie either.Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06820925595506920754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-948826710613032587.post-76131176672115494772018-12-24T19:07:39.038-08:002018-12-24T19:07:39.038-08:00Hi Marion. I'm almost afraid to because Hepburn is so classy and Holly GoLightly is not.Sharon Wilfonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17466621290140789056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-948826710613032587.post-43155214716450465252018-12-24T18:47:19.423-08:002018-12-24T18:47:19.423-08:00Placido Domingo is one of my favorite opera singer...Placido Domingo is one of my favorite opera singers! I used to have his Three Tenors Christmas CD... might still have it somewhere(?).

I felt very similarly about Breakfast at Tiffany's, and I couldn't bring myself to finish this collection. I was touched by Holly's back story, but it wasn't enough to make me completely sympathize with her as a protagonist. Maybe the Audrey Hepburn movie would be better.Marian Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14115916138435761469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-948826710613032587.post-13788455463221670572018-12-24T10:39:15.855-08:002018-12-24T10:39:15.855-08:00Hi Brian. Capote's life, especially his childhood, was so tragic, and he felt like such an outsider that I think most of his characters reflect his own suffering.Sharon Wilfonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17466621290140789056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-948826710613032587.post-88861591659909025192018-12-24T01:29:23.691-08:002018-12-24T01:29:23.691-08:00This has also been on my radar for a long time. Perhaps Capote wanted to say something about sad and tragic people living in such noisy places.I have seen a few of them myself. I remember my mother playing this when I was a teenager. She loved Placido Domingo and I have fond memories of hearing him sing throughout the house back then.

Acute observation about Capote. In real life, even though he was gay (and also five foot three) he always had a female companion, not too different from Holly Golightly. I think there must have been some kind of co-dependence there.Sharon Wilfonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17466621290140789056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-948826710613032587.post-36790138625785787292018-12-23T20:21:18.528-08:002018-12-23T20:21:18.528-08:00PD has a wonderful voice; i've always liked h...PD has a wonderful voice; i've always liked his control... even more than Pavarotti's i think... don't know much about Capote, but i've observed over my lifetime that people who act like that are scared to death: they've never had the opportunity to discover who they really are...mudpuddlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16647084124715892324noreply@blogger.com
